Shark fishing
There are more tha ten different species of shark
that inhabit the sea of the South Pacific, nearby San Blas Bay,
in the province of Buenos Aires (almost Río Negro)
Species like the cow fish, the sand tiger,
the copper shark or the dogfish
are an excellent excuse to go on an embarked fish trip
on an adventure towards the infinit sea. Anglers have caught units
of up to 180 kilos and up to 3 meters of length. It's important
to bare in mind that fishing sharks in the open sea
requires patience and silence because sharks are
very sensible and easily frightened in the presence of strange sounds,
like the one of a motor.
The best known species are:
- Dogfish: it is the most common pecies. Its weight
does not surpass the 20 kilos.
- Copper shark (Bacota): it is the more "sport"
shark because of its speed and force. It offers an entertaining
game of skill since it changes directions during the fight.
- Cow shark (Gatopardo): you can find units of
up to 60 kilos, even though in somo special cases anglers have caught
gatopardos of up to 100 kilos. They are found near the shore or
in the ría where they feed upon fishes.
- Sand tiger: also known as pig shark because it
weights between 120 and 140 kilos and because it swallows the bait
which is deposited in its stomach. As a consequence, it lets itself
be dragged without offering resistance.
- Varied fishing: gatuso, corvina, lenguado, pescadilla...
it seems to be an endless list. It an excellent choice because abondance
is the law and the catch is assured from the coast and in the high
sea.
Catch & release
This fishing trend helps to balance the environment because it
reduces the loss of units and is practised in the Atlantic Coast.
Releasing the shark from the bait can be a difficult task. One option
is to cut the lead. It has been verified that in less than 45 days,
the shark will be freed from the hook without further problems.
